Yesterday, a family from our Northern Cheyanne tribal community came to St. Vincent Regional Hospital to receive care and complete a few appointments. In the process of them going to their appointments, the grandmother got separated from her family. On her way to a meeting, Melissa came upon this sweet grandmother who appeared lost. As Melissa easily does, she asked how she could help. The grandmother explained her predicament and shared her worries that she's been separated from her family and wasn't sure how to fix it. She shared that she had tried reaching her family on their mobile phones but that they don't get good reception in Billings. Melissa reassured her that she would be with her until they found a resolution together. Melissa helped the grandmother retrace her steps, and as they turned the corner in a different building, they heard a young person cry out to the grandmother. Her grandchild was weeping and expressed how worried they were when they realized they were separated. They expressed gratitude to Melissa for St. Vincent's security team who they had just notified of their lost grandmother and was helping them in their search. Melissa reached out to security to give an update and close the loop that this loving and kind family was now reunited. This story is one of the many ways that Melissa shows up for others and leads with kindness, respect, and empathy.
