A patient arrived in our unit from Labor and Delivery feeling very awful. She had a rough delivery, suffering from a 3rd Degree laceration and continued to bleed on our unit. Melissa Knight was instrumental in her care and helping the patient recover. The family was extremely concerned and anxious when the patient asked, "Mom, am I going to die?" Melissa was able to calm them down through education, communication with the MDs, and quick acting tasks (lab draws/medication administration/vital signs). She was able to relieve the patient's/families' fears and most importantly, make the patient feel better.
In addition to this exceptional care, Melissa was also training a newly hired nurse and caring for her other patients. Melissa is always very caring for all her patients and even though she is extremely busy, she sits with all of her patients and they believe she has all the time in the world for them. She truly deserves this DAISY Award; any patient would be lucky to have her as their nurse!
