I was, of course, very scared about this entire situation and apprehensive about going into another procedure, and she reassured me with calmness, never sugar-coating things but also reassuring me
Mia Delfin is an incredible human and an amazing, compassionate, intelligent, skilled, intuitive, warm, and competent nurse. I was fortunate enough to be cared for by Mia during two 12-hour shifts while recovering in the ICU from a lengthy and difficult cancer surgery. From the moment she walked into the room, I could feel her loving, warm, competent energy. She radiated confidence and also caring. One of the components of my surgery was the placement of a "g-tube" for feeding. Mia carefully spoke with me as I described my physical feelings. She took a lot of time to evaluate and ask clarifying questions. She was the first person to raise the alarm that my procedure had, unfortunately, had a relatively rare but extremely serious complication. My situation would have been dire if she had not taken extra time, expertise, and communication skills to notice. Because she caught it quickly, I was able to have a relatively simple revision surgery within two hours. I believe, with every fiber of my being, that Mia saved me from extremely grave additional health complications. I am 54 years old, and my parents are in their 70s. They have had their own health issues and are generally mistrustful of the healthcare system. My mom happened to be present during this entire situation, and she still cannot stop talking about how amazing, compassionate, smart, alert, on-the-ball, warm, empathetic, calming, and just overall stellar Mia is. Family friends are texting me that they have heard about Mia from my mom. I was, of course, very scared about this entire situation and apprehensive about going into another procedure, and she reassured me with calmness, never sugar-coating things but also reassuring me. On a personal note, Mia is a breast cancer survivor, and she courageously and generously shared her story with me. I am so grateful because she gave me hope and the knowledge that I am not alone. A billion dollars couldn't buy better nursing care than I received at Kaiser Riverside, and the best of the best is the care I was fortunate to receive from Mia in the ICU.
