My first birth experience was less than ideal and I came in to have my second thinking that was just how it was going to be again. From the minute Micala walked into our room I knew it was going to be different this time. She explained everything in depth to me and I learned more things from this birth than I ever did with my first. She made me feel comfortable enough to tell her what I was disappointed about with my first birth and things I wish would have happened that I would love to have happen this time, like immediate skin to skin and having the first hour after I delivered all to ourselves with no nurses bathing or dressing or taking my baby. She fought for me and everything I wanted and made sure I got it all.
I had a very intense, fast and hard labor and I know without a doubt I would not have been able to do it without her. She helped keep me calm and focused when I couldn't get an epidural and I know I would have been screaming if I had any other nurse. After the birth, she took amazing care of not only me but also my 2.5-year-old son. She was so kind and patient and let him help measure and weigh the baby and it will be something he will remember forever. Even on different shifts when she wasn't our nurse any more she came in multiple times to check on us and to tell us goodbye as we checked out. Also, after the birth, she made sure any other nurses knew what I wanted, like the baby in the room as much as possible and to stay on top of pain medication.
I got every single thing I wanted out of my birth experience and I know it is 100% because of her. She is an amazing nurse and an incredible human being and I will absolutely fight for her to be my nurse with future babies. I could not have done it without her supporting me.
