Micha is one of our CVICU RNs. She is an employee who has recently returned as part of the CVICU from a couple of years of travel nursing. Micha returned back home to be with her family and back to her JDCH family. Micha came back with the same culture of JDCH in her when it comes to passion, pride and the overall Patient and Family Centered Care approach to nursing. In less than a year she acclimated back to the unit like she never left and has been engaged as ever. She is one of our Magnet Champions who is able to share her enthusiasm and engagement with others. She works night shift but at any given time she has this palpable energy and positive outlook on life no matter how busy the unit is and has the sense of humor that can make anyone's day.
In a short time as a CVICU RN, Micha developed a relationship like a family to one of our VAD patients in the unit. A mother who rarely leaves her child's bedside and makes a difficult decision to live in the hospital to be with her child every day. The circumstance this family faces every day includes uncertainty and a family that is making due with the hardship life brings them. A true romantic that she is, Micha planned a little "date night" for Mom and Dad, who have probably not spent any time together as husband and wife in almost a year this coming April. Micha gathered the troops and ask her generous team members to donate what they could to allow both parents some much needed alone time. Micha was able to raise enough funds and coordinated the date night which included much-needed salon time for Mom and a mother/baby necklace. Both parents are so appreciative and even saved some monies left over to buy their daughter some bilingual books to read to her as this has become their hobby during downtime.
For some, coming to work is part of their routine in their life. Micha comes in knowing that nursing is more than just caring for her patients and families, but going above and beyond the job by making a difference in their lives. We are very blessed to have Micha back home to JDCH as she truly embodies the culture and engagement we want to see with all of our team members.
