With my husband suffering from a stroke and losing mobility on his left side, I was devastated. Michael became a great comfort both to myself and my husband. He is one nurse whom I knew I could depend on. Whenever my husband was on his shift, I knew he was always available. His care was over and beyond, and he never was annoyed if my husband became overly demanding. He helped, he asked questions of him, he listened to him, and he remembered everything my husband said to him. Never forgetting to follow through on anything. Michael, through his kindness, would always explain what he was doing and why he was doing it so I could learn procedures that would assist me in my husband's home care. Something as simple as rolling up a bed pad and rotating my husband so I could change a pad was so meaningful to me. He treated my husband with respect and dignity when so many times that is lost in hospital care. His calming and relaxed demeanor helped me to destress so I could relax and, in turn, help influence my husband to respond in kind, which assisted us in our communication skills to each other. That was one of the most meaningful of all the things I learned while my husband was in rehabilitation. Being stressed and anxious achieves nothing, and remaining calm and relaxed enables me to care for him and myself in a way I never thought possible.
