One assignment comes to mind. Michele was assigned a patient that the team suspected was a possible victim of spousal abuse. As the patient recovered post-surgery, it became evident that she should stay overnight in the hospital to monitor for bleeding and pain control. The patient was crying and receiving threatening texts from her husband. He was insisting that she come home to care for the children. Throughout her care, Michele gained her trust, and the patient admitted to being afraid to go home with her husband. She confided that he was abusive verbally and physically. Michele and another nurse stayed until 1 am (4 hours over shift end) to get the patient to a room and transfer her there. Michele knew it was the right thing to do to ensure the safety and well-being of the patient. She documented the incident, and the hospital social worker was informed the next day. In this assignment, Michele demonstrated her dedication to her patient and her well-being. She went above and beyond her duties to ensure the safety of a vulnerable patient in a difficult situation.
Her dedication to her patients, her ability to handle difficult situations with grace and compassion, and her support of her team make her truly deserving of recognition. Many days you will see her show up with candy treats, even holiday earrings for the nurses to wear. Michele goes above and beyond in her role as a nurse, and her positive attitude and caring nature make a difference in the lives of those around her. She is a true asset to the nursing profession, and her commitment to excellence should be celebrated.
