I want to nominate Michelle Austin for a DAISY Award for her compassion and promptness in a critical situation. While Michelle was exiting the building to go to her car, she heard what she thought was a cat sound. Upon further investigation, she observed two females frantically yelling and knocking on the glass doors near Entrance #2. The females directed her toward a car where she observed a male with a gunshot wound. Michelle quickly called 5North to get the assistance of Security. Security responded promptly. The gunshot victim was in the back of the car. On the opposite side of the building from the emergency department (ED). When neither of the females present would drive the car around to the ED, and the gunshot victim was reporting difficulty breathing. Michelle knew there was no time to wait for a stretcher. This individual needed immediate medical attention. Security drove the car to the ED and Michelle drove the security van. These quick actions extended this individual’s life.
