My mother suffered a tragic fall in her home last Sunday causing a cervical fracture and subsequent cardiac arrest. She was revived and brought to Cortland ER where she was stabilized and transferred to Crouse ICU at my request. After a battery of tests, it was determined that her condition was terminal, and the palliative care team was brought in.
Michelle introduced herself on Monday morning and began her care for my mother. It was apparent from the very beginning that she was a special nurse. Apart from her obvious clinical knowledge and skills, her empathy and compassion for not only her patient but the entire family, and a willingness to go above and beyond at every turn. She cared for my mother for the past two days and as her time draws near, I can't help but think what a blessing it has been to have Michelle as her nurse. She truly embodies every aspect of what a nurse should be.
