Michelle Jagielo is one of the members of our team and is a DAISY Nurse due to her commitment to patients and staff members on the unit as well as her wonderfully compassionate nature and dedication to service. Many of the nurses on our unit view her as a positive role model through the way that she speaks kindly to all who she encounters. When others around her are discouraged, she goes out of her way to speak encouraging words that inspire and give comfort to those around her. In the midst of great change, she is someone who sees the value in speaking positively about change and who demonstrates an open mind and great attitude about pushing forward in the midst of difficult circumstances. When conflict arises among patients or staff members, Michelle addresses the conflict in a direct but respectful way and is sure to listen to all aspects of the conflict before responding in a sensitive way. She is incredibly knowledgeable and serves as an excellent resource to staff members on our unit, and she never seems to tire of answering questions or finding out information that is needed to provide high-quality patient care. When Michelle is a nurse on our unit, you truly feel that she is "in the trenches" with you. When nurses call on her for assistance, she dives right in to ensure that patients receive excellent, compassionate care in a timely manner. She goes out of her way for patient safety while also ensuring that nurses are not overwhelmed or taking on more than they are able to handle.
A specific story I can share about Michelle was when I was at lunch and was notified that a patient of mine required immediate attention. Although I had another nurse watching my patients for me, the situation required extra attention and additional nursing help. I came back from my lunch break to assess the patient and intervene with what was necessary, but it was clear that I could not leave the patient. Michelle immediately came to assist and offered to take over caring for the patient during this time so that I could finish my lunch. This ensured that the patient received the care that was required to maintain their safety while also allowing a staff member to have needed time on a break away from the unit. This is one example of how Michelle is incredibly selfless in how she performs as a team player on our unit. She is truly a treasure to work with and is an incredible asset to the team.
