I realized I was reaching out in fear. Miles took my hand and held it, getting in my face and telling me I was not alone.
Miles was the first nurse I remembered. When I woke up still intubated; I motioned for him to please remove the tube. He quickly explained he would but that it would take a minute. In the moment I was lonely and afraid. I realized I was reaching out in fear. Miles took my hand and held it, getting in my face and telling me I was not alone. Without his thoughtful care, I think I would have had a much different outcome. Miles could have easily dismissed my hand as simply an overdramatic patient. He never made me feel foolish. He made a point to care for me as if caring for a family member. He was extremely kind and compassionate to me.

After returning home, I was told by my dear friend who was there that day that she was very concerned about the faces and movements I was making. She went to find Miles, who came to check in. She said he checked my vitals and made sure I was okay. He then explained that my behavior was normal for just having surgery. He explained my vitals and showed her he had checked all important lines and tubes. But if she became concerned again to come out and get him. She explained how much comfort he offered my family while he cared for me. Please make sure to recognize this gentleman for his above-and-beyond efforts.

Note: This is Miles' 2nd DAISY Award!
