Everybody that I had spoken to was very sweet, but there was something about her face and the way she was speaking to me. I felt very comfortable and safe, letting her know that I was scared.
I had surgery a couple of weeks ago. It was an ER visit that turned into same-day surgery to remove an ectopic pregnancy. The entire surgical team who worked with me was empathetic, caring, and professional. The Doctor who performed my surgery let me know that there were three ways it could go, and she took the time to draw out on a piece of paper. All three ways the surgery could go for my husband and I to see and clearly understand what was going to happen. She answered all my questions and she also took time to let me know that she had spoken with my OB/GYN and she was empathetic and sorry for what was happening. She let me know she knew exactly what I had gone through the past few years and I thought that was very kind for her to take some time to get to know who I was before she came in to speak with me.
MAJ Knox came in the room and she had the sweetest, most caring expression on her face, and she let me know she was gonna take care of me. I let her know that I was scared. I don't know why I waited for her. Everybody that I had spoken to was very sweet, but there was something about her face and the way she was speaking to me. I felt very comfortable and safe, letting her know that I was scared. She made sure to grab the anesthesiologist to come and speak with myself, and my husband and our anesthesiologist sat in there for about 20 minutes, explaining to us everything that was going to happen and that really calmed my nerves.
When I was rolled back to my room, I had a brief moment where MAJ Knox and I were speaking, and I let her know that I really needed to speak with the doctor before the procedure. We talked for a little bit, and she made sure that before they put me to sleep that I had enough time to speak with the doctor. Everyone was amazing; I could not have asked for anything to go any better. There was something about the way MAJ Knox spoke to me, the tone of her voice and the compassion in her eyes, I really needed her that day more than I knew. She is a treasure, and I'm so grateful for her.
