Inova Fairfax Hospital
I was very frightened about it and Miranda was so comforting. It is rare when someone makes this big a difference in the care of someone else.
I am writing in appreciation of the incredible care I received from one of your nurses. I was admitted to the hospital for very high blood pressure, high levels of Potassium in my blood stream and complications from my type 1 diabetes and my severe kidney damage and issues stemming from severe gastroparesis. It was a long five day stretch.
Although I routinely receive great care at INOVA hospital, I rarely meet any one who totally understands what I go through and who takes the time to ensure that I get care that actually helps me. I am usually run through a battery of tests and this visit was no different, yet Miranda Jarvis was extremely intuitive about what was going on with my body. Her own experience with a son who is type 1, a husband with high pressure, and a brother with Crones disease helped her really stay on top of my care.
I was feeling unsafe after given an intravenous blood pressure med. One night my BP was so high that they administered medicine through my IV that dropped my pressure from above 200 down to 110 in less than 10 minutes. The next morning I had a severe headache and my vision was drastically impaired. I told my nurse that I had a horrible headache and that I could not see. I asked her for a Tylenol. I was ignored. Then the shift changed, and I met Miranda.
I told Miranda my symptoms, and within minutes she had the "stroke team" in my room examining me. They did neurological testing to make sure I did not have a stroke, and I felt safe that people were taking care of me. It turned out that I had a burst aneurysm in my eye and the fluid prevented my sight. Miranda also made sure I was given less insulin due to lack of food intake, and she suggested that I may have narrowing in my stomach or colon. It turns out that I have been since diagnosed with a collapsed stomach and small bowel that was noticed on a CT scan I took last week. Everything Miranda suggested was exactly what I was suffering from.
I am awaiting a kidney transplant and I was very frightened about it and Miranda was so comforting. It is rare when someone makes this big a difference in the care of someone else. I obviously have a lot going on and she made me feel like I could get these things to improve and she gave me comfort and hope at a time when I was not feeling that. I just want you to know how valuable this person is, and to endorse her in every possible way.
