I nominate Misty Das for the DAISY Award for her nursing excellence in leadership, motivation and professionalism. She serves as a role model for the nursing profession. She collaborates with others and communicates clearly and effectively with co-workers. Misty is a resource nurse who works with Cystic Fibrosis patients in the PACS ambulatory care clinic at North Druid Hills. She started working part time after her child was born. When our assistant nurse manager (ANM) quit Misty was asked to be interim ANM for 3 months. She has actually been the interim ANM for 7 months now in addition to her regular duties as CF nurse. She has just finished training the new ANM. She has shown excellence in leadership and motivation as she has taken on the role of interim ANM cheerfully with a can do attitude. She gained the respect of the nurses she managed by working just as hard as they were working or harder right alongside of us. When an area needed extra help or someone to fill in, she was first to volunteer if she was able. If she needed to ask a nurse to do extra duty she was always quick to show gratitude and appreciation for their efforts. She always took time to stop and help someone or answer a question. If she didn't know the answer she would find out. She frequently asked everyone how they were doing and asked if they needed help. I know she worked a lot of extra hours even at home when she wasn't getting paid. When anyone asked for time off she worked hard to find coverage so each team member could get what they needed. Her cheerful attitude and her example of hard work ethic that motivated us all as her willingness to help everyone exemplifies her as a leader in nursing.
