Morgan was my evening RN during my hospital stay. She exhibited a very high level of skill and compassion in the care that I received. It was quite evident that she cared deeply about caring for me as patient at a time when I had been through a very traumatic experience that led to my being hospitalized on an emergency basis. Everything that she did and her consistently positive and caring approach was focused upon helping me to get deep rest and sleep so that I could heal and recover from my ordeal.
On Thursday morning, I was taking a shower when my defibrillator first discharged because of continuing ventricular tachycardia. Over the course of the next twelve minutes, I received eleven more shocks. My experience was traumatic because I was fully conscious and aware with every single discharge. A supervising RN here described each discharge as being equivalent to getting kicked in the chest by a powerful racehorse while simultaneous getting tasered in the chest by a powerful taser gun. Several nurses, doctors and other hospital personnel have been amazed at my having endured so much in such a short period of time. Even after they stopped, neither EMS not the ER nor I knew if/when another shock would occur.
With this ordeal as a predicate for my story, I greatly needed to be able to sleep and rest deeply every night of my stay here at TMH. A year ago, I spent sixteen days and nights at TMH. At that time, I left here incredibly sleep deprived. It took almost two months to make up for the lack of sleep that I experienced at that time. This time I dreaded a repeat of that level of sleep deprivation. Morgan completely changed all of that by doing everything possible to create an exceptional environment for deep sleep, healing, and recovery by clustering my care.
The two nights I was in a semi-private room, she coordinated the completion of tasks with my roommate’s RN so that only one of them would come in and deliver healthcare services to both of us versus each of them coming in at different times and disturbing our sleep/rest twice-each RN separately. Whenever she entered the room, Morgan’s demeanor was always very pleasant and warm. In delivering her services, she was extraordinarily compassionate and caring. These attributes put a very sick patient at ease from the beginning. She paid close attention, listened deeply, and asked directly pertinent, clarifying questions so that she made sure that she really understood my needs and concerns and then she went on to address with an excellent level of proficiency, skill, and compassionate caring.
It is clear Morgan puts enormous amount of thought and energy into how best to care for patients and their unique needs from moment to moment. I am deeply appreciative and grateful to her for all that she did during a very trying time in my life.
