After just one shift with her, Neva broke through that barrier with her gentle approach and kind spirit
Recently we’ve had a young patient who comes in cyclically for inpatient chemo and has also been admitted in between cycles due to complications. During her first admission, our patient showed signs of anxiety and apprehension and was very worried about every detail. After just one shift with her, Neva broke through that barrier with her gentle approach and kind spirit. She and the patient bonded over Nightbird’s song, “It’s Okay,” an original song sung by a woman who battled cancer. During an extremely scary hospitalization, the patient held on to this …
Neva gave her great comfort, telling her “all right…we’re going to take a minute." They’d listen to the song together and talk about how it’s going to be okay. Neva gave our patient the courage she needs during her journey. As a result, the patient now helps other patients. Compassion is something Neva shows every patient. She advocates for every patient and is and is the embodiment of FCCC’s mission.
