Nick is always going above and beyond for his patients which is evident by the many kudos he receives from patients while doing leadership rounds. Nick primarily works with Oncology patients and his compassion, patience, and caring nature shines through in the care he does.
In a specific instance, I was going around doing leadership rounds on the floor and was about to enter one of Nick's patient's rooms. I paused before entering the room because this room was of a patient who was on comfort care and actively dying. In the doorway, as I paused, I observed Nick in the room, sitting down with family members, drinking a cup of coffee with them, and having a candid conversation. Nick spent 30-45 minutes engaging with family and sitting down with them. Not only was he able to answer any questions the family members had, but he was able to put their minds at ease and offer a distraction from their loved one actively dying.
It is so easy to become focused on deadlines and tasks as a nurse. However, Nick continuously takes time out of his day to make his patients and family members involved, and at ease without being rushed.
