My mother was a patient on 4East at Miriam Hospital from Friday - Sunday due to a major infection in her hand from some kind of a bite, it was not COVID related. My mother is 81 and has Dementia/Alzheimer's with no memory. Nicole Baribault was my mother's nurse all weekend. We only go to Miriam Hospital due to the high standard of care both my mother and father have received in the past. I could not have been more pleased with the support and care my mother received from Nicole and the doctor.
From our first meeting until discharge, nurse Nicole was accountable, making promises and following through, always pleasant, smiling, caring and thorough. Her actions always followed what she said she would do. In an environment where there are crises, phones ringing, machines beeping to be turned off, and patients and family members asking for things, nurses are pulled in so many directions, often things are forgotten. The little things matter so much to family members when a loved one is in the hospital - Tylenol for back pain or warm compresses that worked at home. Nicole always came through, getting my mother what she needed. She always appeared calm and in control, maintaining humor with my mother who repeated her questions over and over. She connected with my mother, asking her about her cat and remembering her cat was so important to her.
With Nicole as my mother's nurse, I felt comfortable going home, knowing my mother was being well cared for and safe. She never appeared frustrated or raised her voice when working with my mother, which can easily happen after she repeats herself over and over asking the same question. We often do not take the time to point out what goes right in our world, since it's easier to complain about what went wrong. I believe in acknowledging someone when they do an outstanding job and go above and beyond! I am so thankful that Nicole was my mother's nurse. Nicole is a true DAISY Nurse.
