If we had not recognized the patient’s clinical decline for another 30 to 60 minutes, this patient would have had a cardiac arrest on the unit.
While it is no secret that Nicole is one of our best nurses (and has been for years)! We have – she showed tremendous clinical acumen, presence of mind, and critical thinking skills today while taking care of a patient. We had a patient who was admitted (transferred from RWRH) overnight with sepsis, likely due to a post-surgical RUQ abscess.

Patient was clinically declining, and she promptly noticed early signs of clinical decline, contacted me and other relevant members of care team – promptly initiated treatment and we were able to stabilize the patient and transfer her to MICU.

If we had not recognized the patient’s clinical decline for another 30 to 60 minutes, this patient would have had a cardiac arrest on the unit. Nicole has always been exceptional in her clinical assessment, and when she is my patient’s nurse, I can rest assured that the patient will get the highest level of care and monitoring.
