Recently, we had a young patient in labor with a troubled past. You could sense her fear throughout labor, but she expressed it with verbal aggression towards her care team and support people. Nicole was truly the only person able to communicate with the patient during labor. The bond and trust she developed so quickly with this patient was the key to her safe delivery. Nicole took extra time to reach the patient on her level, both emotionally and physically. She embraced the patient during her outbursts. She spoke calmly and gave her patient options to make her feel in control but not overwhelmed or triggered by the labor process. That night, Nicole was the reason we achieved a safe delivery. Nicole is patient and kind. She sees each patient as an individual, with different needs requiring different types of communication and interventions. Nicole deserves recognition for going ABOVE & BEYOND for her patients! Especially those in need.
