Someone once told me the difference between being great and extraordinary is consistancy. This is something that has resonated with me ever since, and I cannot think of a better nurse who exemplifies this more than Nicole Frye. The personal pride and dedication I see from Nicole is unwavering no matter what the circumstance may be with any patient that she is taking care of on our unit. Although I could ramble on and on about the numerous times I have seen Nicole take initiative and provide exceptional care to her patients, one encounter truly stands out and is a moment I will never forget.

While working a night shift together, we had a patient who was a young male who was transferred to our unit. The patient was having a hard time ambulating and regaining his mobility from his condition and being so young, this took an emotional toll on him and really brought his hopes of recovery into a downward spiral. He began to cry and told me that he was scared that he would never be able to be the same person he was before he was hospitalized. It was very hard to see such a young man with so much potential start to feel like he was never going to fully recover.

After seeing this, I immediately went to Nicole for extra help and without missing a beat she was in the room helping to console the patient and the family member who was with him for the evening. She talked with them about the treatment plan and recovery process. There was a sense of relief in the patient's eyes after talking with Nicole. And although I'm sure he was still a little fearful, I could tell that she really made an impact on his outlook and overall made a bigger impact on his recovery.
