Nicole Hart is a role model for compassionate leadership. This compassion is extended to her patients/families as well as team members. There are several recent examples of how Nicole’s "heart" has been shared with others. Recently, there have been some special situations with patients who presented to the Emergency Department where Nicole has gone above and beyond to help patients with not only a physical need but also an emotional/social need.

A patient presented with her children to the Emergency Department. It was clear the children had not eaten and Nicole ensure to take care of the parent/patient as well as make sure the children with her were provided something to eat while in the ED.

There was a recent victim of domestic violence. Ultimately, this patient was not ready to report her abuser. Nicole took special care to make sure and provide a safe place to speak to a police officer about her domestic abuse. Nicole made sure the patient knew we were here to help so maybe one day when she is ready to report or leave her situation, she knows we will be there to help.

Nicole's compassion also has extended to her team. As the day shift supervisor, Nicole has owned her role and the importance of rounding and connecting with the team she leads. Nicole has even coined the phrase "Heart to Hart" which describes the focus of her rounding's to connect on an emotional level with the team. Nicole has been recognized frequently by her team as someone they trust and can count on to guide the ED. The values that team members have shared that Nicole exhibits consistently during a shift: organized, communicates the plan for the day, listens to my concerns, always willing to help, commitment to support of the team. We are blessed to work with Nicole and our patients are blessed to have been cared for by her.
