Nicole called me this morning to share a story of a patient she was trying to make stars align for. She and GI Nurse Practitioner both tried their best to look into preop timing, surgery timing, and cost to the patient while over-accommodating things for the patient, who did not understand why preops were required within a certain time frame and she clearly didn’t understand her insurance/costs either (an ever-growing challenge our staff are burdened with more now than ever). The frustrated patient even hung up on Nicole, but that didn’t stop her. She continued to try to figure out ways to help her understand and still bravely volunteered to call her back with her new solution, which I was confident was going to make the patient very happy. She truly went above and beyond, and she deserves to know, even if the patient doesn’t tell her, that we see her and recognize what an amazing nurse she is and are lucky to have her.
