Nida is amazing, she made me feel good and now I am looking good because of what she did. I am lucky to have her as my nurse.
Nida Madarang is a DAISY Nurse and needs to be recognized. Today, observed her shaving and cutting her patients' hair. Two of his patients looked very happy in the process, and I could see they felt honored and valued while Nida was cutting their hair. After that, Nida put them in the shower to have a full bath.
Nida did not fail to tell them that, for their safety, they were not to do anything while she gathered what was needed for the bath. One of her patients stated “Nida is amazing, she made me feel good and now I am looking good because of what she did. I am lucky to have her as my nurse”.
Nida is not just caring and compassionate. She is also a role model for teamwork. Although she is a discharge planner, she comes to work on her days off to help TCCU augment the staffing needs. When I asked her why she is working a lot she answered “I feel bad for this veteran who needs my services as a nurse and when I know that TCU is short staffed, I want to come help. It gives me joy to take care of these veterans. My coworkers also need help, so here I am.”
With her extensive knowledge and skills as a telemetry nurse, Nida is the go-to person for her peers. She is well-versed with the TCU admission/discharge criteria. She would willingly help and guide the staff with clinical questions. At one time that there was no assigned charge nurse, she put into herself to do the night shift assignment.
Nida is a role model in discharge planning. As a patient care coordinator, Nida maintains strong relationships with the medical and multidisciplinary teams. She ensures that the veterans have everything they to safely go home. She is a good veteran advocate by collaborating with the doctors, coordinating with other departments, and patients’ families to have a good discharge plan for the veterans. On the weekends when she’s here and I have discharge planning questions, she would willingly answer my questions or even do the coordinating herself.
Nida has consistently shown commitment to the VA mission and vision by her positive, caring and compassionate attitude, her teamwork, strong telemetry knowledge and skills as a bedside nurse and her high professional standards in collaborating with the medical team and multidisciplinary team in ensuring safe and timely discharge for the veterans.
Nida is a true DAISY Nurse.
