During the many sleepless nights, she helped me begin to trust and lower my walls a little at a time. I really appreciate all of the talks and safe space for my fears, tears, frustrations, and anxieties.
Norma has been my night nurse many times while I’ve been at Landmark in Joplin from the end of March through August 2024, and now yet again during another round mid September for which I no longer know how long these infections and issues will go on. Early on, Norma recognized my challenges in asking for help. She saw my lack of trust in healthcare, the hospital, and people. I did not want to be a part of any of this. During the many sleepless nights, she helped me begin to trust and lower my walls a little at a time. I really appreciate all of the talks and safe space for my fears, tears, frustrations, and anxieties.
She helped me actually get some sleep at night, which is not possible with any amount of meds alone. She checked in on me and helped (even when I couldn’t bring myself to hit the call button for the help I needed).
Norma helped me allow the nurses and doctors (both at Landmark and KU) to be able to do their jobs. I’ve been in and out of the hospital for over a year, and I am looking at another surgery at KU, then most likely back here for recovery. I’m still terrified, but I have not left AMA once yet, even though a part of me is always on the verge.
Thank you Norma for reminding me what I’m fighting for and keeping my cup of hope FULL!
