My father was admitted to the ICU floor of Good Samaritan. His nurse, Lindsey Woodall was amazing. My dad was notorious for giving individuals a hard time, and Lindsey was no exception. However, she would give it right back to him, and that just made his day. Watching the 2 of them interact put a smile on my dad's face and warmed my brother's and my heart. Lindsey took the time to listen to my dad and truly made him feel at ease during this difficult time. Thank you, Lindsey, for the time you spent with our dad and the care you provided. The compassion you provide to your patients does not go unrecognized.
A week later, my father was readmitted back to the ICU floor. During this visit, he had Kathy Morgan as a nurse. I cannot put into words how blessed and appreciative our family is for the care Kathy provided in my dad's final days and hours of life. She was a true angel. The entire day before my dad passed, he gave Kathy a hard time for a milkshake. Dad was on a liquid restriction due to heart failure. Around dinner time, Kathy leaned over my dad's bed and told him she would give him a milkshake and asked what flavor he wanted. He was very weak and told her he really just wanted a Pepsi, and she told him she would get him one. Dad drank that Pepsi, and little did we know the next day would be his last. During his final moments of life, Kathy was not only attending to my dad and making sure he was comfortable she was also attending to my brother and me as we watched our father peacefully pass away. Kathy will also hold a very special place in my heart.
During both of my father's visits, Mike Greenwood was his charge nurse. We did not have much interaction with Mike until the end of my dad's life. When it came time to make certain decisions, Mike talked to my brother and me. He provided us with the truth about our father's health. As hard as it was to hear, it was exactly what was needed for us to make the difficult choices we were faced with. Mike made sure my dad had enough medication to keep him pain-free and fully sedated. My brother and I took comfort in knowing Mike was going to be there.
I can not Thank Lindsey, Kathy, and Mike enough for the compassion and care they provided to Dad. As hard as it was, they made it somewhat bearable to get through.
