“…ED received a very unstable patient in Trauma 50 via Miami-Dade Fire Rescue with a massive bleed. His care was managed over many hours, involved GI doctors and multiple meds to stabilize him to go to surgery and ICU. Unbeknown to us prior to his arrival, Obed Bello, a new ED Versant nurse, found the patient lying on the side of the road on Kendall Drive and 147ave; although many motorists passed by and saw this man collapsed with multiple bags of groceries strewn in the street, no one stopped to help until Obed. Obed said the patient was on the bus, felt sick, and came off at that bus stop and fainted due to a massive rectal bleed. Obed stayed with the patient, called 911, waited for EMS and asked them to take him to Baptist ED although EMS usually goes to Kendall Hospital. The patient came to Baptist and had very good care and went to ICU. He passed away that night…it was a great comfort to his daughter to have met an angel who cared enough to ensure he was shown kindness and compassion in his last hours.”
