OBGYN/NNN unit led by Head Nurse Layla Arafat is exceptional in caring for their nurses who care for their patients. The unit initiated a Healthy Nurse Healthy Nation group, which plans and implements activities to ensure nurses are taking care of themselves in a fun and creative way. They implemented an HNHN cook-off competition by utilizing two key ingredients in a recipe. The final dish was presented to a judging panel for evaluation. The judges involved in the HNHN cook-off were from different departments in the hospital to ensure fairness and enhance collaboration and engagement. As part of the HNHN initiative, the OBGYN team initiated two Yoga events held in the Physiotherapy Department for interested nurses. The certified Yoga instructor was one of the OBGYN nurses who volunteered her time to help her peers and colleagues distress and learn a new sport.

The OBGYN unit believes in working as a team and learning from their mistakes. Early this year, they initiated a massive ZERO HARM initiative, which focused on conducting educational activities for the unit nurses and interested visitors. Each week the unit focused on a different category related to achieving zero harm such as CAUTI, CLABSI, HAPI and Fall. The initiative also tackled different areas of practice that are not linked to KPI, such as the management of chest tubes and fetal monitoring. Each topic was assigned to a champion who led the activities and served as a resource person for the unit. The education week activities consisted of Pre-knowledge test via MS teams to test the staff knowledge about the week’s topic. Next, a Knowledge/practice refreshing day and then a Presentation and review of IPP with an interactive session by champions that involved games and role play. Finally yet importantly, a Knowledge check day, which included a one to one discussion of the pre-test results and the post test results.

The OBGYN team is also very keen about bringing worldwide events to the unit. They led a celebration for Women’s Health on March 7, 2024, which inspired the hospital to make it a hospital-wide event. They also initiated planning to conduct a Culture Diversity Day on May 21, 2024. The unit nurses, in collaboration with their manager, thought of both initiatives. The OBGYN unit created a video by one of their own employees to be utilized to enhance their patient experience. The video demonstrates everything a patient needs to know and should expect during his/her stay in the hospital. The video was seen by patient affairs and was taken to be implemented as a hospital initiative. The OBGYN demonstrates innovative and creative work that focuses on nurses, patients, and the overall hospital. They are a true DAISY Team.
