Olivia took it slowly, and interacted with him gently, which made the experience successful.
Olivia is in her first year of nursing and works on our Ortho/Neuro unit. The family of one of her patients submitted this nomination:
Olivia was extremely patient and understanding. She answered questions and if she did not know the answers, she got the answers for us. It was important to her to be right. One challenge the patient had was in eating/swallowing his crushed medications in applesauce. Olivia took it slowly, and interacted with him gently, which made the experience successful. Some other nurses were not able to administer these meds (no success in eating/swallowing). Olivia engaged with him and when he wanted to express himself, took the time to listen & understand the best she could. If she didn't understand she says casually "I didn’t get that." She built trust with him.
