When Omar took on the challenge of managing 9E it was not an easy task. However, his determination, dedication, and leadership skills ensured that he succeeded. Omar invested considerable time and effort in getting to know each member of his staff personally, working closely with them to transform the unit into one of the best in the hospital.
I'd like to formally recognize and commend Omar for his exceptional work as both a nurse and a nurse manager. Omar's remarkable journey as the manager of 9E has been nothing short of inspirational.

When Omar took on the challenge of managing 9E it was not an easy task. However, his determination, dedication, and leadership skills ensured that he succeeded. Omar invested considerable time and effort in getting to know each member of his staff personally, working closely with them to transform the unit into one of the best in the hospital.

Under Omar's leadership, the team has achieved a significant milestone: drastically reducing the unit's rate of falls and maintaining the improvement over time. This accomplishment speaks volumes about his ability to lead and inspire this team toward excellence. Omar's poise and grace in handling various situations are truly admirable. His excellent disposition and willingness to collaborate make him a pleasure to work with. No matter how busy he is, Omar always finds the time to address any questions or problems I have, providing innovative solutions that I would never have thought of on my own.
Personally, Omar has been an incredible coach to me. His guidance and support have been invaluable, fostering a positive and productive work environment. It's an honor and privilege to recognize Omar's unwavering, top-notch leadership. He is not only a great leader but an amazing person, and we are fortunate to have him as part of our team.

It is my great pleasure to write this letter in support of Mr. Omar Camba, Nurse Manager 9 East Telemetry at Mount Sinai Morningside. I have had the opportunity to observe Mr. Camba’s leadership over the unit for the past 18 months. During that time, he has impressed me with his concern for the patients receiving care on his unit. Beyond that, he has demonstrated great skill in organizing and directing a nursing unit with a fair amount of staff turnover. In spite of this great challenge, he has been able to maintain an esprit de corps as he galvanizes the nurses on his unit, directing them to accomplish the performance goals set forth each quarter.

In addition to his leadership, Mr. Camba is very personable and professional. He has developed an easy rapport both with the floor nurses and with nurse leadership. He participates in quality improvement committees and is an active member of the patient experience committee. His insights and participation have been critical to the success witnessed at Morningside.

In summary, I recommend Mr. Camba most enthusiastically and without any reservations.

I am writing to nominate Omar Camba for the prestigious DAISY Nurse Leader Award. As a dedicated member of the Mount Sinai Morningside team, Omar Camba exemplifies the qualities of compassion, leadership, and clinical excellence that the DAISY Award seeks to honor.

I have had the privilege of working closely with Omar for 3 years in their role as Nurse Manager of a 36 bed Med/Telemetry unit. In this time, I have witnessed firsthand the profound impact he has had on both patients and colleagues.

One of the most striking examples of Omar Camba's leadership and compassion occurred when he spearheaded a new initiative to improve 9East’s falls metric. Recognizing the unique challenge of implementing and improving the falls rate on 9E, Omar Camba developed a comprehensive plan that included revamping assignments and designating districts, then zones to monitor carefully those patients that were at the highest risk for falls. The results were remarkable, with fall rates significantly decreasing. This initiative not only enhanced patient care but also boosted the morale of the nursing staff, who felt more supported and empowered in their roles.

In addition to his exceptional leadership, Omar Camba is a passionate advocate for the professional development of nurses. He pairs experienced nurses with new graduates, providing guidance, support, and encouragement during the critical transition from education to practice. Under his guidance, he has helped to successfully transition nurses to step-down units and the ICUs. Omar Camba's commitment to nurturing the next generation of nurses ensures that our institution continues to provide top-notch.

Omar Camba's exceptional leadership, compassion, and dedication make him a truly deserving candidate for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award. He embodies the spirit of nursing and serves as an inspiration to all who have the privilege of working with him. I wholeheartedly recommend Omar Camba for this honor and believe that his contributions to our institution and the nursing profession should be recognized and celebrated.

As a seasoned travel nurse, I've traversed numerous healthcare settings, encountering a plethora of managerial styles. Yet, amidst this diversity, Omar's leadership shines brilliantly as a beacon of excellence. From the outset, Omar welcomed me into the 9E family with open arms, fostering an environment of inclusion and mutual respect. His equitable approach to assignments and scheduling not only fosters a sense of fairness but also cultivates a strong sense of camaraderie among staff. ... I've had the privilege of witnessing his tireless advocacy on behalf of his team and unit. Whether it's navigating the complexities of staff ratios, addressing supply shortages with resourcefulness and resilience, or deftly managing the intricate dance of scheduling, Omar consistently demonstrates a steadfast commitment to the well-being and success of his nurses.

I have been a hospitalist at Mount Sinai Morningside since 2018 and have cared for many medically and socially complex patients on the 9 East medical telemetry floor. This medical floor has always had an informal reputation among the physicians for being a high functioning, very professional, highly competent, and always reliable. I think this reputation is mostly due to the great nurses and staff working on the unit. However, individual “greatness” is never enough, it is only effective when the entire team is great, and that can’t happen without a great leader like Omar Camba.

I have had the pleasure of working more closely with Omar since becoming “the other half” of the 9E Dyad when I became Unit Medical Director of 9 East in March of 2022. When stepping into that role, Omar taught me a lot and extended a sincere collaborative hand. He has creative ideas to improve nurse, provider, and patient communication and teamwork. He is always developing ways to improve important metrics like patient satisfaction, hand hygiene, mobility, and has mad huge and impressive strides in reducing patient falls. He is always working on something and striving for better for his team and for patients. I often run into Omar during my rounds in patient rooms speaking with patients and families, a quality not seen in all non-direct patient care nurse leaders.

Often times staff are frustrated by their leader or boss but I have never heard so many kind words spoken by our unit’s nurses about Omar. They all comment on the hard work he puts in, how available he is despite his many responsibilities and the effort he puts in to recognize all their hard work! Even the travel nurses admire him for his strong leadership skills. While working as a clinician on 9 East, I often work with one traveler nurse. I asked this nurse, “do you work with us full time now, I see you here all the time?” He responded, “No, but I always request an assignment for this floor because Omar is the best manager I’ve worked for.” I think that speaks so much to the kind of leader Omar is and really solidifies my sincere and strongest recommendation for the recognition of the DAISY Nurse Leader Award for Mr. Omar Camba, MBA, RN.
