This RN heard singing in a patient room. She recognized the language to be Hebrew and asked the patient and family if they were of the Jewish faith. The family shared that they were, and this RN asked if they would like to have kosher meals ordered from our dietary office if they were available. 

The family was very happy to accept, so this RN reached out to the doctor, who then ordered a kosher heart healthy diet. The patient, who has dementia, said, “This is so good! It’s kosher!”

Kudos and congratulations to this RN for being culturally aware and sensitive to meeting the needs of the patient and family!

I was not present on the day this occurred, but I heard staff discussing the story and telling how wonderful it was for the family to have their religious preferences recognized.
