We weren't too far into our journey when we were assigned our now primary nurse Trish. I was already having an emotional time - postpartum emotions and the ups and downs of NICU life, and our son was having a hard time coming off of the ventilator. He had already been extubated and reintubated a number of times, and it seemed as though we were getting nowhere. Enter Ms. Trish! She comforted us and explained everything to us clearly in a way we could understand. She had nothing but kind and comforting words for us. Trish didn't "sugar coat" the situation, but she showed us the reality of the situation and what may be ahead. To a parent, that is truly comforting to know what may come. She has been giving our son loving and compassionate care as if he were her own child. She has been our biggest advocate and our biggest cheerleader throughout our whole NICU journey. Her passion and love for caring for these babies are what every parent hopes to see and experience when faced with the challenge and heartache of having their child in the NICU with health issues and/or prematurity. If Trish is not a perfect example of a caring and compassionate nurse, then I truly don't know who would be. She puts her all into caring for these babies, and she truly deserves to be recognized for her amazing work and kindness. We truly will miss seeing her often once our NICU journey is complete!
