Good day. I had to undergo an emergency colostomy due to stage 4 breast cancer. Out of the blue! Rushed to the hospital, traumatic! After much pain, and emotional and physical stress the situation was quite unbearable. Seeing the bag attached to your belly along with all the other tubes, drains was overwhelming. The staff was so busy at the hospital (doing their best) it was hard to completely comprehend how the soma worked, needed cleaned and changed, etc…. I was distraught. Once I was able to see Patty at the U of A Cancer Center, she immediately made me feel at ease, calmer, and a bit more normal. She took time with me to explain exactly what to do, she answered my questions in a manner in which I could understand. She made me feel safe. I’ve seen her for appointments since, as I navigate this road of healing. I’d like to nominate Patty for you to recognize, what a God-send and professional you have on your team. She is amazing and an asset to you, especially in this day and age in our healthcare system.
