Paul went above and beyond, making sure this patient was able to feel "normal" for this one day while he was sick in the ICU.
A Patient arrived at the unit from a skilled nursing facility. The patient was very upset; he was in the ICU and wanted his cellphone and glasses from the facility. Unfortunately, the RN caring for the patient could not leave the unit, and the patient did not have family available to pick up his belongings. RN Paul overheard that the patient wanted his belongings. During his lunch break, he went across the street to the facility and picked up the patient's things. The patient was very grateful for Paul's kind act.

Paul was taking care of a patient on Super Bowl Sunday in the Milford Campus ICU. The patient had been here for a few days and was on his way to recovery. Paul had been the nurse for this patient a couple of times and built a close relationship with the patient. On this Sunday, Paul could tell the patient was not his normal self and seemed down. When asked why he was feeling upset, the patient replied that he just wanted to be home with his family enjoying Super Bowl foods and watching the big game. First checking with the provider and making sure it was okay, Paul went and ordered some special Super Bowl foods for this patient, including chicken wings and pizza. Paul put the game on the TV and made the patient feel like he was at home and comfortable. Paul went above and beyond, making sure this patient was able to feel "normal" for this one day while he was sick in the ICU. Paul's patient-centered care is displayed not only on this day or this patient, but every single shift when he is working and every single patient, not only the ones he is assigned to!
