He immediately took charge of my care. Paul’s sense of humor and technical direction was exactly what I needed to feel welcomed and relaxed.
I came in for the removal of a gallbladder, biliary tube & liver biopsy. During the biopsy, some bleeding was noticed, and the doctor decided that it would be best for me to stay overnight. When we were brought to the room, the nurse on duty was Paul.
He immediately took charge of my care. Paul’s sense of humor and technical direction was exactly what I needed to feel welcomed and relaxed. I noticed this nurse was wearing a veteran tag. I noticed that he was USMC, and I was a Navy petty officer. We connected immediately. I appreciate his dedication to his job & his professionalism, mixed with his sense of humor and smiles, which made my first surgery experience a good one. The other nurses worked well with Paul’s leadership.
With the VA getting the occasional bad rap in the news, it has been the complete opposite with me. I regularly go to the Paola & Lenexa VA Clinic for my care & now the VA hospital here in KC. While I am sure the VA is getting better, I realize it takes time for the less fortunate cities to catch up to KC. I am proud to have served my country and continually trying to get veterans to use the VA for their care. People such as Paul make these experiences better and better.
Thank you!

Paul has been very nice and respectful. He is always making requests for you and getting them done in a timely manner. He gets my medications to me on time and always has a smile on his face. If he has to attend to another patient, he makes sure he acknowledges your request and tell you he will get right back to you and he does.
Overall, he is a wonderful nurse and a great person. He always seems to take pride in what he is doing. You should be happy to have him as an employee, as I believe he should be given all the awards that can be given to him.
He really cares about us.
