The parents were very emotional, and by having Paula assess the situation in such a calm matter, it felt as if her calmness traveled to the rest of the people in the room, and they relaxed a little.
We had a family running to the clinic one evening, and it was almost closing time. The parents were SSO, they were desperate and crying, carrying their little girl with a broken arm. The little girl had broken her arm and had surgery a week prior to this visit, the parents were so scared for their daughter. Our first thought was to refer the family right away to the hospital, since the little one was under so much distress. Paula, right away, with a very calm tone and posture, agreed to have the patient seen and at last start care for her here. The parents were very emotional, and by having Paula assess the situation in such a calm matter, it felt as if her calmness traveled to the rest of the people in the room, and they relaxed a little. We started care for the little one right away. The Doctor of the day got on the phone with many of her colleagues to see who could see her for surgery the next day. The patient got x-rayed, splinted and ready for surgery the next day. I don't think if it wasn't for her excellent critical thinking skills and love for care, someone else would of just had sent the patient to the nearby hospital. The patient felt seen, heard and taken care of. In general, Paula is an amazing nurse. She has guided me and mentored me since the day I've started working at Paula. Working alongside Paula is definitely a privilege.
