Her approach, demeanor, patience, and willingness to see other’s perspectives are something straight out of a leader training book. She is an incredible support, not only to her caregivers but also to her colleagues in management/leadership.
Paula is an excellent leader and advocate for nursing staff. She is always encouraging our nurses to take the next steps and further their careers. Over the last couple of months, she has worked with a couple of staff members and fostered their development into management roles within Providence. She is always listening with intent and making her staff feel heard. Not only is she actively engaged with her own staff, but she has taken on the role of managing another unit on top of ours. I am sure this isn't an easy task, but she handles it with grace and always has a smile at work. With her being as busy as she is, she still makes herself present and addresses the needs of her staff.

Paula is an exceptional leader. She is the manager of three separate units: inpatient Pediatrics, pediatric intensive care unit, and Pediatrics float pool. Her approach, demeanor, patience, and willingness to see other’s perspectives are something straight out of a leader training book. She is an incredible support, not only to her caregivers but also to her colleagues in management/leadership. When she is not hyping someone up and celebrating a win, she is sitting and listening to someone who needs a nonjudgmental soundboard. Even at times when Paula is frustrated or not feeling like her ideal self, she finds a way to put that aside and be the leader that is needed at the moment. She leads with transparency and compassion in all of her interactions and problem resolutions. She is an incredible advocate for pediatric services, the people who care for children, and especially the patients and families within that service line. She is an exceptional role model for leadership nursing. She is not afraid to have crucial conversations and hold people accountable based on standards maintained by the American Nursing Association. I have personally learned so much from her. I have learned how to carry myself as a leader in nursing, how to be kind at all costs, and how to find a way to move forward, even in the face of “no.” Paula is so deserving of this award for everything that she has done, everything that she will continue to do, and for her legacy of being a compassionate and transformational leader in the nursing profession.

Paula is the manager for inpatient peds, PICU, and, more recently, the peds float pool, which is a growing and developing unit. On top of this, she is currently helping cover as neurovascular interim nurse manager. Paula is involved in multiple committees and leadership platforms in the hospital. Even with all the many hats she wears and all that she is involved in, she still makes time to check in with staff each and every day. She advocates for our team and for our staff's growth and development. She has been an amazing mentor and role model for me personally, and I am so grateful to have her as our leader.

Paula has been the perfect leader to take over the peds, PICU, and peds float pool units. She has the right leadership style to manage these units in that she encourages us to be our best and to learn and grow while not "micromanaging". I appreciate her being visible on the units to both the day shift and the night shift. She has inspiring reflections to share at the beginning of our meetings, and also keeps her leadership knowledge base growing by researching and listening to various nurse leaders. Recently, she also added the role of interim nurse manager for an adult med-surg unit while that manager is out on leave. She is able to juggle multiple roles and responsibilities but still stays visible and responds to concerns and emails. Paula is highly deserving of the 2024 DAISY Nurse Leader Award, and I feel extremely blessed to have her as my manager.

Paula has been such a wonderful leader for our Inpatient Pediatric/Pediatric Intensive Care Unit team. She has fostered an environment of trust and respect where we all feel we can share our ideas and concerns but also provided us the decision-making and guidance we need from our nurse manager. She clearly communicates her care for us and our patients and motivates us to continue to aim for the very best care we can provide to our patients and families. She advocates for us and our team and pediatric care in general throughout our organization and encourages our professional development as nurses. We are so lucky to have her!

Paula is not only an Extraordinary Nurse Manager for Pediatrics, Pediatrics ICU, and recently for the Neurovascular Unit, she is also an amazing human. Paula is kind, caring, and leads with compassion. I have never had such an amazing manager, ever. I adore Paula as a whole, and she deserves the world for all of the hard work and love that she pours into everyone else.
