My 4-year-old son was a patient on the Pediatric Unit recently. He had a tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy and was not recovering well at home. We were having trouble getting him to eat/drink to keep hydrated and take meds to control his pain. I had contacted ENT and they recommended that we bring him in to be seen through the emergency room. On the way to the hospital he began to vomit blood. I was already concerned and at that time my concern was at a heightened level. We arrived in the ED and they got him right in but after several hours on IV fluids with no improvement they decided to admit him.
We arrived on the Pediatric Unit and we were greeted with some of the most welcoming faces. Heather S., our day shift RN, who got him set up in his room, was beyond astonishing. Madi was our day shift Aide that day and was great with our boy as well.
We met Nikki that night and I could go on and on about how comfortable and at ease I felt with her taking care of him. She was very attentive and he responded well to her.
Sarah was our Nurse the next day and she was so calming as my nerves were a mess. Tiara was the Aide that worked with Sarah that day, and was yet another great addition to this amazing team.
Then we met Kerry, our Nurse for the next couple days, with Alyse being the Aide that assisted her. Our son was still not wanting to drink or eat and was still connected to his IV fluids. No matter what anyone said or did he did not want to do either, which made me worry more. At that point I felt like a failure as a parent and wished I wouldn't have chosen for him to have this surgery. I was taking all blame and had a few tearful moments. Kerry was beyond helpful in every situation. Just having her there to assist in his care made me feel at ease.
Elizabeth was our Nurse the day we were discharged. She went above and beyond in his care.
Without this entire team of Nurses and staff, I'm not sure I would have gotten through this tough time and from the bottom of our hearts appreciate all of them! They without a doubt deserve this award!
