It is an honor to bestow upon the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit the Team DAISY Award. This story is one example of how the PICU influences the lives of its patients and their families every day.

Recently, our lives were forever changed. Our grandson was escorted off of an airplane at BWI Airport to travel by ambulance to BWMC. During the last part of their flight, he was throwing up “blood” and needed immediate medical attention. After some observation and fluids at BWMC, his body was still lifeless. In the early, he was transferred by ambulance to UMMC, where he landed in the PICU. He underwent many surgeries and even coded while in the PICU. But God. He had our grandson exactly where he needed to be: in the hands of some amazing medical professionals. You saved his life!! For that, we are forever grateful. We watched and prayed and praised Jesus for every victory that occurred in his healing process. We also watched how amazing you all were in taking care of him and loving him. His infectious smile was something we waited many days to see, but when it happened, he lit up the room! We are glad you were able to see that. We want to thank you all so very much for the exceptional care you provided our grandson. We are still waiting for his intestines to wake up and do their thing, but we know that God’s got this, and when it happens, you just might hear us cheering and praising Jesus from the 5th floor! Again, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts! May God bless each and every one of you!!! You all are amazing!
