I nominate Peggy Berwald as Torrance Memorial Medical Center's first DAISY Nurse Leader Honoree. Peggy supported the idea of bringing the DAISY Award to the hospital in 2009 and since then more than 70 nurses have been recognized for delivering outstanding compassionate care. Peggy did her best to attend each and every "surprise moment" for the staff. She nearly dropped dozens of healers touch statues. Thanks to the support of both the Nursing Professional Development Council Members and the Young Physicians and Professionals Alliance, the DAISY Nurse Leader Award will carry on at TMMC. It seems fitting that Peggy receives this award today in recognition for all that she has accomplished in her career including a multitude of roles within the organization and bragging rights to 2 Magnet designations. On a personal level….I am grateful for the support Peggy has provided me in my career at TMMC. Having been an employee here for 19 years, the confidence and encouragement of nurse leaders like Peggy have helped to inspire me to do more. The freedom to try new things and to have fun in the process is inspiring and what keeps me going. Thank you, Peggy, for all you have done for the hospital, the nursing staff and for me.
