Nothing can ever prepare you for childbirth. When my water broke I was still happy go lucky and joking around with the triage nurses. She warned me there were 9 other women laboring and they were busy but they would get me checked in. My laughing quickly stopped about 15 minutes into getting checked in. I started having contractions every 45 seconds. I was in full-blown panic mode and the worst pain I have ever experienced in my life. Peggy went to work for me to get me into a room as quickly as she could. There were no nurses available to labor me, so she left her triage post and stayed by my side. The only thing I remember prior to my epidural was me screaming at everyone and Peggy's voice. After my epidural was placed my blood pressure dropped and she acted quickly and reassured me everything would be fine. Once stabilized I truly had the best birthing experience.
Thank you, Peggy, for putting up with me when I was freaking out and being so patient, advocating to get me a room, even when you were full. Somehow getting me the queen-sized bed I jokingly (but seriously) requested. She even offered to stay past her time on her shift but I told her to go home. I really appreciate everything she did for me that day.
