Having a compassionate nurse who puts herself above others and who’s reassuring really helped calm my nerves for a smooth surgery. She ensured that my hospital stay was as comfortable as possible & always put up a warm, caring smile.
She was very attentive, compassionate, and empathetic. In addition, she was also very caring and assuring - making the overall experience very comforting. She calmed me down when I was feeling nervous prior to my surgery. It was my first-time experiencing surgery so you can imagine how frightened I was! Having a compassionate nurse who puts herself above others and who’s reassuring really helped calm my nerves for a smooth surgery. She ensured that my hospital stay was as comfortable as possible & always put up a warm, caring smile. She checked in with me every now and then even when she didn’t have to ensure that I’m feeling OK and I’m comfortable for the surgery.
Post-surgery, she made sure that I was feeling wonderful and explained in detail the medicines that I could take to ease my pain. She’s very punctual and made sure they wheeled me in on time, doctors checked on me, and (most importantly, lol) fed me on time when I was hungry, regardless of the time of the day. I’ve been in hospitals across the globe previously, but her professionalism, care, and attentiveness were phenomenal and second to none. She was kind and gentle when dealing with me as a patient, and as I’m naturally so afraid of needles, she handled my IV-line removal amazingly well that I didn’t feel any pain at all.
As I woke up from surgery, she made sure that I was fine and my vitals were within normal range, cracked funny jokes, and chatted with me like a friend that made my experience feel nice & comfortable, especially with me being so far away from home country. She was like a big sister that I never had. What I appreciate about her the most is the fact that she is inclusive and very sensitive to my needs as a hijabi. She ensured that my aurah is covered when moving me from my room to the operation theatre and vice versa and my image as a Muslim is taken care of and protected throughout the entire hospital stay. This is very important to me as a Muslim woman. Not many nurses would go that extra mile for their patients! Especially when patients are sick and have minimal control over what’s going on around them and with their bodies, so having a nurse who willingly takes care of that is very much appreciated. My hospital stay felt more like a holiday vacation than a scary medical surgery, and I can’t thank her enough for that! If I had to pick a favorite nurse throughout all my hospital experiences throughout my life as 38-year-old, she’s definitely number 1 in my list. Best Nurse Ever!
