...From day one, Rachel has been a blessing to both our patients and our nursing unit. Rachel is very supportive and compassionate when caring for our patients. No matter how large or small the gap is, Rachel strives to bridge that gap to provide whatever it is that the patients need for both the inpatient and home settings. Rachel always has a positive attitude and demonstrates a great deal of professionalism when working. Again, she goes out of her way to collaborate with all members of the healthcare team to provide the best outcome for her patients. As an example of how Rachel works together with the entire unit to provide the best experience possible for our patients, Rachel was most recently featured in a book written by Renee Thompson, MSN, RN, CMSRN. In the book, Celebrate Nursing, Human by Birth, Hero by Choice, Renee Thompson described her experience being pulled to our unit and working with Rachel. In her scenario, Renee was receiving an admission and was stressed as she just started to feel settled after quite a hectic day. Before even receiving report on her new admission, Rachel had settled Renee's patient in the bed, checked vital signs, placed the patient on telemetry, and called the physician to notify them that patient had arrived to unit. This exemplifies Rachel's commitment to the vision and values of UPMC Mercy, always placing our patients at the center of her actions.
