Due to his illness, some of his days were scary for my father and all of us, but we noticed a change for the better in him as soon as Rachel was his nurse. My family felt like she always seemed to have time for him, and they were happy he was in such great hands.
On a day that the patient was not assigned to her, Rachel still stopped in and took him for a walk. Her colleague relayed how thankful her family was to her for taking time out of her day to make him feel so special. My sisters could see how much it meant to our father, and we could all see his spirits improve.
Rachel's colleague witnessed her father's care from the perspectives of both family member and hospital staff member. She was well aware of the other demands placed on Hoover as the charge nurse with a full patient assignment. She was amazed it never showed. Rachel always had a smile and made the family feel at ease.
Rachel has a gift for being positive and making all of those around her rise. Her compassion and dedication to her peers, patients, families, and everyone around her are inspiring.
