From the time I had arrived at the hospital until leaving, I personally witnessed Rachel Hughes demonstrating exceptional care and compassion along with the can-do approach in tackling the requirements of all patients in her charge and yet making my wife (the patient) feel as if she was the most important person needing health care.
During my wife's stay, she suffered significantly from nausea and feeling totally miserable. Because she is bedridden, there was always a need for someone to empty her ostomy bag and/or bring her a bedpan to empty her bladder. Rachel was ready, willing, and able to assist my wife without question, displaying a caring approach in completing all her duties, including those normally completed by nursing assistants. As soon as any medications were prescribed, Rachel administered them quickly and efficiently. She was always readily available to address my wife's needs regardless of the task.
Rachel provided an invaluable conduit with my wife's doctors and specialists, receiving timely responses and/or visits to address my wife's and my concerns. Because of her demonstrated outstanding performance, I specifically requested to have Rachel assigned to handle my wife's nursing duties the next day. On the second day, she continued to minister to my wife's needs while providing superb training to a nursing student working with her.
