...My daughter underwent an emergency C-Section this year. We met Rachel at 0600 when we came to L & D. My daughter had never been in a hospital before and Rachel was her nurse that day. My daughter had been in labor for five days prior to her admission and had been to Triage three times during that time. By the time she was "admitted" she was exhausted and scared. Rachel was so kind and compassionate and took the time to explain everything to my daughter. She was so informative and took the time to answer all our questions. She made my daughter feel so comfortable and was such a patient advocate.
On Sunday morning my second grandson was born! My daughter in-law had so many wonderful nurses during her 40 hours in L & D. I was so happy to see Rachel again. Unfortunately, my daughter in-law too required a c-section for failure to progress. As expected, it got a little hectic at that time! Rachel was assigned to my son, during the c-section. Alas, things did not go as smoothly as hoped and my daughter in-law required emergency intubation. Unfortunately my son was unable to be with his wife in the surgery. Rachel however took the time during the event to keep my son informed as to what was happening. She even somehow managed to get photos of our new grandson after the c-section!
Her reassurance and compassion got my son through a very difficult time. Rachel truly exemplifies the PAMC core values of respect, compassion, justice, excellence and stewardship. Rachel is such a blessing! I will always think of her as a guardian angel for my son that night.
