Raegan James practices in the Nursery unit. Raegan is being honored with the DAISY Award for going above and beyond for the patients and families she cares for. Raegan is described by her patients’ families as being thoughtful and comforting. She is also described as having an awesome attitude. She does everything she can to make her patients and their families stay as comfortable as possible.
In one particular situation, right after birth, a newborn had to stay in the Nursery due to breathing problems. The siblings were very excited to see their new baby sister, but were unable to due to her condition. Raegan made sure that the baby was visible through the window that the siblings were looking through. When Raegan was able to take the new baby to the mother’s room she noted that the siblings should be the first to hold her as they were so anxiously waiting for this time to come. This made the family feel blessed to have a nurse that cared for all of the members of the family.
Raegan is described by her peers as being very open minded, cooperative, and an excellent team player. They note that when things are what she thinks they should be, she doesn’t complain or make negative comments, but instead she thinks of alternative ways of performing or improving the process. Raegan embraces change and is always looking for opportunities to improve her skills and knowledge base. Her peers feel that she is a vital member of their staff and are happy to have Raegan as a part of their team.
Because of Raegan’s compassionate and caring efforts, her patients experience a level of care that exemplifies the impact nurses have in creating an environment where patients and families feel at home.
