Ms. Johnson made some small talk and seemed to connect with M in such a way that M and I felt so much better about the stay. When Ms. Johnson finished her visit and left, M looked at me with a smile and "I like her."
My daughter, M, came to the Baptist Hospital with some ongoing kidney issues related to her struggles with diabetes. After waiting in the emergency and a multitude of tests, M was admitted. M was in bad shape to say the least, her mental state was that of despair because we have been through this many times as she has mostly been a non-compliant diabetic. The emergency department was as most are, the wait, the questions, the stroll to her room was long, the room, nice but still a hospital stay. We were feeing low about the whole situation its disappointing, yet again we are here with such a manageable disease, low... that is until we, but most of all M had her first interaction with Nurse Raja Johnson.
Ms. Johnson came through the door with a smile and introduced herself as M's nurse for the night, before getting into the whole, what brings you here? How long has this been going on? Ms. Johnson made some small talk and seemed to connect with M in such a way that M and I felt so much better about the stay. When Ms. Johnson finished her visit and left, M looked at me with a smile and "I like her."
Throughout the stay Ms. Johnson has been so attentive to our needs and has talked to M about the importance of maintaining a healthy diet and staying active to manage her diabetes. There has not been an evening Ms. Johnson has failed to have a smile on her face, a positive attitude and relatable disposition towards M's concerns. I will say the entire staff working that shift (7pm-7am) was exceptionally caring and professional. We have dealt with many hospital visits, many attitudes towards M NOT managing her diabetes as she should and the feeling we are just another patient. Not this time, Ms. Johnson was the difference, the whole 4-A was great, but Ms. Johnson awesome. It is professionals like this, that make Baptist shine. Many trips to UMMC and I will say, I, (we) were impressed. I can not say enough about how Ms. Johnson treated us, I hope this little gesture can let Ms. Johnson know what a difference she made to our family. Thank You Baptist, I know we will have other visits, I just hope we are fortunate enough to be met with the same enthusiasm and great attitudes.
