Not knowing if he would live through the weekend before she ended her last shift of the week, Rebeca gave us the most precious gift we had ever received.
My brother-in-law was very sick when he was admitted to Baptist Health-Floyd. At only 35 years old, his liver and kidneys had stopped working, and he was dying. The care we received from everyone in the ICU was amazing...we literally loved every single nurse and aide who helped while we were there, but Rebeca went above and beyond.

Every medical test said that my brother-in-law was going to die. Rebeca was very comforting but also informative, explaining things to us patiently (and repeatedly because we weren't thinking clearly) and even encouraging us to leave the hospital for lunch to take care of ourselves. Not knowing if he would live through the weekend before she ended her last shift of the week, Rebeca gave us the most precious gift we had ever received. She printed out his heartbeat and put it in a vial for us, then gave it to my husband so that a part of his brother could "be with us forever". I was floored by this thoughtful and generous gift, simple thought it was. To think of us that way at that moment and to realize that this was the perfect gift at the time was certainly more than I ever expected.

Thank you, Rebeca. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

(By the way, I know how hard it must be to not know the outcomes of the patients they care for. Please let Rebeca know that my brother-in-law was eventually transferred to IU Medical Center in Indianapolis and received a successful liver transplant. He has fought against all the odds and is healing well and expected to continue living for quite a while.)
