Becky Blevins received a patient who had a port placed. She did a very good head-to-toe assessment. During her assessment of listening to lung sounds, she noticed that the patient's hearing was very diminished throughout. She got an x-ray ordered. Once the radiologist read the report, he immediately called the doctor who had done the port placement and told him the x-ray showed free air. The patient had to have another surgery that evening. She had an exploratory lap, appendectomy, and had a colostomy placed. The patient was unable to come off of the ventilator after that surgery and ended up in the unit.

During her recovery from the port placement, the patient was very adamant that she was going home after the placement and had previously signed an AMA form. The patient had no idea how sick she really was. Rebecca is a very good nurse who is very dedicated and always willing to help those who need help. She is a huge asset to the PACU department.
